Venice Marathon 2012
The countdown starts to the 27th edition of the 28th of October, but at home Venice Marathon record is already registered. 8.000 will be the starters this year, 1.000 more than the previous edition.
The marathon of Venice is a race that takes place annually in October over the classic distance of the marathon: 42.195 km departing from Stra and arriving in Venice.
The Venice Marathon was the first marathon recognized by the Italian Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and included in the international calendar of the IAAF. The Venice Marathon is sponsored by the Venice Casino.
The departure is from Stra, a village near Padua, famous for the beautiful Villa Pisani, the route then winds through the villages of Fiesso d’Artico, Dolo and Mira, on the Riviera del Brenta famous for its beautiful villas and thus comes to Mestre where, after passing through the city, racers start to cross the Ponte della Libertà that leads to Venice. The runners have to cross several bridges over the canals of Venice, until the crossing of the Grand Canal from the Punta della Salute in San Marco, on a pontoon bridge built specially for the occasion. The arrival is placed in Riva Sette Martiri. Only in 2011, for the first time the race has passed through Piazza San Marco.
